Recovering: One Mighty Weekend, Part II - Friday

Friday was the first official day of the party weekend. By the time we woke up, the first pool party was already underway. The pool parties were held at the Buena Vista Palace, where we were staying. Luckily, our room was not facing the pool, so the music was not blaring through our window. By the time all of us were fully awake, we made our way downstairs.

Now, the pool parties were on Friday, Saturday & Sunday and were called Reunion. As we arrived to the pool area of the hotel, I could see why that was a fitting name. These pool parties were where all the One Mighty Weekend Alumni catch up with friends from all over that they had met previous years. It was definitely a Reunion. Since it was our first year, it was a little intimidating (at least for me), but we actually ran into a bunch of people we knew. I guess you don't have to be Alumni in order for it to be a Reunion!

We proceeded to down a few drinks, and were joined by the rest of the San Diego Crew: Kendall, Black Steve, Stan & White Steve. It was great to see them and catch up a bit. Unfortunately, Tropical Storm Barry was heading our way, so we decided to head back up to the room.

With the threat of downpour literally on the horizon, we had to make a choice: scrub going to Typhoon Lagoon or chancing getting caught in the storm to dance it up. As any self respecting Circuit Boys would do, we changed into other swimsuits (can't wear the same ones we were wearing at the hotel pool, now can we?) and put some shorts and tank tops on over them. Once we were all ready, we walked across the street to Downtown Disney, but didn't get far. A woman town car driver parked in front of the hotel offered to drive us all for a low fare. Score!

When we arrived at Typhoon Lagoon, the rain was starting to pick up, but we didn't let it phase us. Our thinking was so what if it rains, we will be in our swim suits. Once inside, we rented a locker and some towels, then stashed our street clothes in the locker and headed to the wave pool.

Okay. I have never been to a water park like this before, at least not one with a wave pool. It was one of the highlights of the weekend. It was a blast to just swim in anticipation of the next ten foot wave to come crashing down on you.

After a few of us played in the wave pool for a while, we decided to try the lazy river. It was fun and relaxing. By the time we made it all the way around we could hear the Thumpa Thumpa calling and were ready to dance!

The DJ spinning was Alyson Calagna. We have never heard her before, but have been told she was good. She is primarily an East Coast DJ. She was damn good. I thought she had the crowd going and gave us exactly what we wanted.

About half way through the party, the temperature dropped a bit and the rain started to hit harder. You might think that would end the party, but nope. The crowd of hot men in their little speedos and square-cut swim suits all just closed in on each other and we all used each other to keep warm. It got mighty friendly in that pile of wet, hot bodies. We later described it as being in a huge shower with a big group of super attractive men. It was a great party!

We even met some great guys there: Scott & Howie from Austin. Plus, we met up with our friend Newt, whom we originally met in Montreal, Mark & Rodney, whom we met at Long Beach Pride, and Matthew & Len, whom we know from Phoenix but don't get to see them that often. These parties are great to catch up with long distance friends.

As the party started to wrap up, we decided to beat the crowd and head out before the last song. Our town car driver agreed to pick us up and stayed true to her word of being there at the gate.

Back at the room, the guys got ready for after hours at Arabian Nights called Magic Journey. Rich and I decided to stay in the room for a bit to get some play time in before heading over ourselves.

The event space for the Magic Journey parties (again there is one each night) is pretty interesting. Arabian Nights is a dinner theater place that puts on shows with horses. For the parties, they put planks down over the dirt and raised a huge light system. The space was not small by any means, but damn. It was packed full when we got there. David Knapp was in command of the beats for this event. He is an awesome DJ and is climbing up my list of favorites. We danced the night away into the wee hours of the morning. Rich and I were the last to leave of our group, and were only an hour or so short of closing it out. But by this time, we were exhausted so we hopped back on the shuttle to the hotel and climbed into bed.

No point in completely wearing ourselves out. We have two more days to go!
