I Miss City Life. =(

Don't get me wrong, I love Phoenix. It is a great (fledgling) city. There is great potential here. Downtown is practically blossoming before my eyes.

But.

I miss living in the chaotic order of a real city. The bustling of constant movement and the reassuring peace brought by the hectic throb of its inhabitants. I miss being able to take the metro places or even just walking down the street to my favorite restaurants or bars to meet friends for a bite to eat or a few drinks. Phoenix does not nor may it ever have this. It may not be written in the stars for this desert metropolis.

Let me fill you in. Some of you may already know this. Phoenix has some of the most beautiful weather in the country. The problem is it is only between October and April. The few remaining months of the year can leave you running from your air conditioned house to your air conditioned car, just to drive half a mile to the store. The summer heat is definitely an acquired taste. It took me two whole years to finally get acclimated. I do not mind the heat, but even the most seasoned resident cannot stand it for more than 10 minutes. How can anyone be comfortable strolling down the street to maybe meet friends or go on a date when you are a big sweaty mess once you arrive? True, they are building a light rail throughout the valley. But personally, I do not think it will meet the needs of a city trying to become something of a New York or even a San Francisco. Only one line is planned (more are,at least, under study), and I feel a light rail is going to see fewer riders than had they chosen to install a subway. It is just a tad frustrating.

Furthermore, I am still unsure about this surge in downtown residential construction. Granted, there are more high rise condos popping up everywhere, but the pricing of said condos are completely out of whack. Come on, who is going to pay $600k+ for a tiny-ass condo that is barely a 1 bedroom. Some of my worries have even come to fruition with numerous foreclosures of the first round of condos to become available, and they were not even the pricey ones.

I don't know. I guess I am just a city boy at heart, and having just visited New York City (the City of all Cities) certainly does not help. I just wish Phoenix, in all its wondrous infancy, grows up and not further out (like Los Angeles) without tearing itself apart.

Think Thin, People!

*sigh*

Approved: Nasty Pig Briefs

An Unplanned, but Definitely Deserved Review.

I recently purchased a pair of the newly released briefs by the brand Nasty Pig. Originally, I bought them because I thought they were hot looking and the waistband was definitely suggestive. When they were delivered in the mail, I did not wear them out right away. I decided I wanted to wait until I went out to the bars or dancing to try them out.

Having just returned from my trip to New York City with Rich, Philip & Jerry, I have plenty to report on these undies!

For starters, they are really hot. I love the cut, fit and look. I received plenty of compliments on them, as I had them poking out the top of my jeans, while dancing my ass off at Stereo NYC (to the point that my jeans were practically falling down). Someone even (jokingly) asked if the name on the waistband was the brand or my nickname. Besides looks, they are some of the most comfortable underwear I have EVER worn. This is coming from the person with 2 dresser drawers full of underwear, so I am pretty well informed when it comes to new and popular styles. The Nasty Pig briefs are one of most well constructed pairs I have come across and the quality of fabric is top notch. They held up after a 12 hour dance marathon and felt like a fresh pair when I arrived back at our hotel room the next day.

If interested in a comfy and stylish (IMO) pair of low-rise briefs, I recommend you give Nasty Pig a try. They also come in trunks and jocks, which I will have to check those out too.

I am even more interested in their line of jeans, now. I wonder how they would be to wear out dancing.

National Underwear Day: August 7th?

OMG! I just checked out the website for National Underwear Day and realized that this year it falls on my birthday!

How fitting is it that someone with an underwear fetish share their birthday *hint*hint* with the biggest day of the year for underwear!?!

Yes, my birthday is right around the corner. I still don't know what we will be doing for it. Hopefully, it will be something fun.

Maybe, I will get some new underwear! *cough*size medium*cough* LOL

Yeah, most likely, I will.

Hell, It's About Time: StarCraft II

This sequel has been a long time coming. I, like many other StarCraft fans, are ecstatic about the prospect of the follow-up to one of the best selling real-time strategy game. Blizzard Entertainment, the creative juggernaut behind StarCraft as well as the ever-so-addicting World of Warcraft, has recently posted a teaser site for StarCraft II. It boasts that this latest addition of the space war epic saga will have: "Fast-paced, hard-hitting, tightly balanced competitive real-time strategy game play that recaptures and improves on the magic of the original game."

Surprisingly, Blizzard has not mentioned any additional races in the game play, this time around. You will be able to take the sides of just the Terrans, Protoss and Zerg. It would have been sweet to have a new aspect and point-of-view to the storyline. Alas, I am sure Blizzard will not stop at just one sequel. I bet there is a few Expansion Packs and Sequels down the road before they ineviablily release:

More Than Meets the Eye: Shia LaBeouf

After just having seen Transformers, I just have to say that Shia LaBeouf has grown up into one sexy man!

I first saw him in the Disney's Holes. Since then, I have followed his career. Not only is he talented but dang he has been none stop busy. He has appeared in films such as Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, I, Robot, Constantine and most recently starred in the lead role of Disturbia.

Transformers was a completely awesome movie, in part to his superb acting. And having Shia leading the cast just cemented my belief that this boy-no-more actor is going to be on the top talent list for the new Young Hollywood.

He is currently filming as part of the cast of Indiana Jones IV.

Keep your eye out for him; he is on his way up!

Summer is Here!

There is no doubt about it. Summer has officially arrived to the Valley of the Sun. As I walked to my car from my well air conditioned workplace today, I was welcomed by a sweltered wall of heat. I entered my car and scrambled to get the engine started to continue the Phoenix institution of refrigerated air. The steering wheel was untouchable, not to mention the seatbelt. Within seconds, I have revived my Toyota Corolla and cranked the air. As the blast of hot air quickly turned cold, I looked down at the outside temperature. Any guesses? It was whooping 111° F. Are you freaking kidding me? Okay, I thought to myself that the temperature is going to be a little high when I first get into the car because it had been sitting there all day in the sun. Well folks, not know did it not go down as I drove home. It rose even higher to 112° and for a few minutes even up to 113°.

So yeah, summer is here.

Thank gawd for the pool!

Excited: Kathy Griffin

Ever since I used to watch Suddenly Susan, I have always been a big fan of Kathy Griffin. She is just down-right hilarious!

Now, I will admit that I have only seen a few episodes of Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List. It just seemed like I never knew when it was airing. But now, I have my TiVo set for this season & I am going to buy Season 1 on DVD.

And it is funny; she seems to be everywhere, right now. I see her in print, on TV and even at events I have attended, such as being the headliner for the pre-party of the main event of One Mighty Weekend. All I have to say to that is she must have one awesome publicist.

Unfortunately I was only able to watch the last few minutes of Kathy Griffin's stand-up at the One Mighty Party Pre-Party due to following the majority vote of the group, you can imagine my excitement to find out she was stopping in Phoenix on her tour.

Rich and I have tickets to see her at the Dodge Theatre, this Saturday. Now, I have not been to many live performances: a couple of concerts, a few musicals and one opera. This is going to be my first time seeing a comedy act in person. I just hope I haven't ruined it for myself, since I just watched her televised act the other day. Maybe not though, she seems like the type of comedian that changes her set every time she is on stage.

I will write more after I officially become one of Kathy Griffin's "Gays."

Tony Moran Feat Kristine W - Walk Away

Tony Moran Featuring Kristine W: Walk Away

I have been a fan of Kristine W for years. In my opinion, she is the Ultimate Gay Diva. She has been popping out #1 Dance Singles for as long as I have been out there dancing and beyond. Not only just she make awesome music that us gay boys cream our pants for, but she actively supports our community and makes it a point to perform at gay events and Circuit Parties.

Among my friends, we had a joke for a while that she was at every single event we were attending. One of my friends *cough*Philip*cough*, would always be like in one breath, "OMG, Kristine W!" and in the next, "That b!tch is everywhere!" I knew he was only kidding, 'cause we all still loved her music. And, I don't know if you have ever seen her perform, but she is damn good on stage, especially when she whips out all of her musical instruments. Wow!

Anyway, I wanted to make note of her latest single. It has been getting a lot of club play. I heard it all weekend in Orlando at One Mighty Weekend. When I first heard this song, I was like, "Damn! This is one of her best ones, yet!"

Give it a listen for yourself. I definitely recommend it!

Recovering: One Mighty Weekend, Part II - Friday

Friday was the first official day of the party weekend. By the time we woke up, the first pool party was already underway. The pool parties were held at the Buena Vista Palace, where we were staying. Luckily, our room was not facing the pool, so the music was not blaring through our window. By the time all of us were fully awake, we made our way downstairs.

Now, the pool parties were on Friday, Saturday & Sunday and were called Reunion. As we arrived to the pool area of the hotel, I could see why that was a fitting name. These pool parties were where all the One Mighty Weekend Alumni catch up with friends from all over that they had met previous years. It was definitely a Reunion. Since it was our first year, it was a little intimidating (at least for me), but we actually ran into a bunch of people we knew. I guess you don't have to be Alumni in order for it to be a Reunion!

We proceeded to down a few drinks, and were joined by the rest of the San Diego Crew: Kendall, Black Steve, Stan & White Steve. It was great to see them and catch up a bit. Unfortunately, Tropical Storm Barry was heading our way, so we decided to head back up to the room.

With the threat of downpour literally on the horizon, we had to make a choice: scrub going to Typhoon Lagoon or chancing getting caught in the storm to dance it up. As any self respecting Circuit Boys would do, we changed into other swimsuits (can't wear the same ones we were wearing at the hotel pool, now can we?) and put some shorts and tank tops on over them. Once we were all ready, we walked across the street to Downtown Disney, but didn't get far. A woman town car driver parked in front of the hotel offered to drive us all for a low fare. Score!

When we arrived at Typhoon Lagoon, the rain was starting to pick up, but we didn't let it phase us. Our thinking was so what if it rains, we will be in our swim suits. Once inside, we rented a locker and some towels, then stashed our street clothes in the locker and headed to the wave pool.

Okay. I have never been to a water park like this before, at least not one with a wave pool. It was one of the highlights of the weekend. It was a blast to just swim in anticipation of the next ten foot wave to come crashing down on you.

After a few of us played in the wave pool for a while, we decided to try the lazy river. It was fun and relaxing. By the time we made it all the way around we could hear the Thumpa Thumpa calling and were ready to dance!

The DJ spinning was Alyson Calagna. We have never heard her before, but have been told she was good. She is primarily an East Coast DJ. She was damn good. I thought she had the crowd going and gave us exactly what we wanted.

About half way through the party, the temperature dropped a bit and the rain started to hit harder. You might think that would end the party, but nope. The crowd of hot men in their little speedos and square-cut swim suits all just closed in on each other and we all used each other to keep warm. It got mighty friendly in that pile of wet, hot bodies. We later described it as being in a huge shower with a big group of super attractive men. It was a great party!

We even met some great guys there: Scott & Howie from Austin. Plus, we met up with our friend Newt, whom we originally met in Montreal, Mark & Rodney, whom we met at Long Beach Pride, and Matthew & Len, whom we know from Phoenix but don't get to see them that often. These parties are great to catch up with long distance friends.

As the party started to wrap up, we decided to beat the crowd and head out before the last song. Our town car driver agreed to pick us up and stayed true to her word of being there at the gate.

Back at the room, the guys got ready for after hours at Arabian Nights called Magic Journey. Rich and I decided to stay in the room for a bit to get some play time in before heading over ourselves.

The event space for the Magic Journey parties (again there is one each night) is pretty interesting. Arabian Nights is a dinner theater place that puts on shows with horses. For the parties, they put planks down over the dirt and raised a huge light system. The space was not small by any means, but damn. It was packed full when we got there. David Knapp was in command of the beats for this event. He is an awesome DJ and is climbing up my list of favorites. We danced the night away into the wee hours of the morning. Rich and I were the last to leave of our group, and were only an hour or so short of closing it out. But by this time, we were exhausted so we hopped back on the shuttle to the hotel and climbed into bed.

No point in completely wearing ourselves out. We have two more days to go!

Recovering: One Mighty Weekend, Part I - Pre-Party

So.... I am alive. That is saying something, right?

The SF Crew (sorry Jerry) and I have been going to several Circuit Parties since we started with The White Party: Palm Springs 2006. It became a quick routine that we each would 'push' a party to everyone. One Mighty Weekend was my first Party Push, which I first mentioned last fall.

Having now attended our first year's festivities, I am damn glad I pushed it to the group! We had an absolute awesome time. Sure, there were some hiccups that may have dissuaded other from partaking in some of the parties. Not us! We were going to do it all! And, we certainly did.

Here is a run through of our trip. I had a couple of days off of work before we left, so I was able to rest up before we go on the plane. It was really nice to just relax a bit. Come Wednesday, May 30th, Rich, Jerry and I all boarded our plane from Phoenix Sky Harbor. Now, we are on our way to a gay circuit event that just so happens to be at a primarily family focused theme park, Walt Disney World. This comes with a definite down side; our plane was filled with screaming kids that cried, played their noisy games and even threw up the entire flight. It was not our favorite part of the trip; let me tell you.

Anyway, we survive the four hour torture only to get to baggage claim and find Jerry and my bags were lost. Oy! Luckily, they knew exactly where they were and we were reunited with them later that night. It was still quite stressful to be on vacation and not have your bags.

Orlando, Florida. The first thing we all thought was it was really green and had a ton of little lakes everywhere. I could see why everything was so spread out on the map. It was noticeably more humid, especially coming from Phoenix. After dealing with our lost luggage, the three of us piled into a cab and headed to the host hotel, the Buena Vista Palace.

Apparently, the Buena Vista Palace had just complete renovated their rooms and were just finishing up on their lobby. This hotel was beautiful. The rooms were decorated with a modern look but still had a comfortable feel.

We were the first of our group to arrive. Bernard got in later in the day. The three of us decided to stroll over to Downtown Disney and grab a bite to eat, since it was just across the street from hotel. Once Bernard arrived, we went back to Downtown Disney to an offset called Pleasure Island. This is where all the Adult dance clubs and stuff are within the parks. We all walked around and grabbed a drink. At one point, this girl started hitting on me. Oy! She eventually pieced things together and asked if I were gay. I confirmed it, but that did not stop her. She then tried to convince me to give her a chance to convert me to the other team. Sorry, that will never happen. I know where I stand. But, it did not end there. Shortly, this guy came out of nowhere. He claimed to be her brother. After a few more tries by this girl to try to seduce me, her brother asks me is I am top or a bottom. Oh My God, this is not happening. He gets into the mix by trying to pick me up to. At one point he had proposed that the three of us all go to their hotel room and mess around. That's why I think they were not really related, although they were from Kentucky. Anyway, you may be asking where my friends and partner were during all of this. They were sitting right across from this watching and at some points telling me I should do it! Thanks, guys! There was no way, although the boy was pretty cute. LOL

After we managed to not get a last drink before the little stands serving tropical concoctions closed, we quickly departed to sexual starved twins and headed back to our hotel. We all headed down to the hot tub for a bit and mingled with the other early attendees, before calling it a night.

Philip, Tony and DJ (Dallas Justin) all flew in the next morning. After waiting for all parties to settle into the rooms, we headed out to the Magic Kingdom. Since we knew the parties would take up most of our time while in Orlando, we decided to head out a day earlier and hit one of the parks. We all agreed on the Magic Kingdom. It had the most rides and they would be more familiar to everyone.

After being totally confused by how the shuttle system worked from the Buena Vista Palace, we walked over to Downtown Disney and jumped onto one of their buses. We took the bus to one of the Disney Resorts, Disney's Contemporary Resort. This was a pretty cool looking hotel. I had thoughts of a modern Noah's Ark when I saw it. Once inside, we hopped on the Monorail. Little did we know, we were going the wrong way. Oh well, it would add to the adventure. We were able to see two more of the Disney Resorts, so it was all cool. The other two equally intriguing hotels were Disney's Polynesian Resort & the Grand Floridian.

Once we arrived at the station for the Magic Kingdom, we picked up our tickets at Will Call, and were on our way. The park was pretty much the same as Disneyland in California, with a few changes. The one change that I was most upset about was the lack of the Matterhorn Bobsleds. Now, I guess they just built the new ride over in Disney's Animal Kingdom called Expedition Everest, which is supposed to be the same thing. We never made it to that park, so I was bummed about missing that ride. Oh well. More reason to make it out to Anaheim to visit Disneyland.

One of the high points of the day was getting Rich to ride two rollercoasters. He agreed to go on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Space Mountain. I also love to see the changes made to Pirates of the Caribbean to incorporate pieces of the movies, such as Captain Jack Sparrow. All-in-all, everyone seemed to have a great time. After some quick shopping, we headed back to the Buena Vista Palace to relax a bit before going out.

The plan was to go to Mannequins, the dance club at Pleasure Island which has their gay night on Thursdays, but we had heard about the lines being hell, so we hung out in the room for a bit. We eventually made it down there but didn't try to get into the club.

After a while and a couple of drinks later, our group got the attention of a guy walking by from New Jersey. He was pretty drunk, but seemed nice. He said he was there for the weekend with his brother, who is also gay. Long story short, he got drunker and seemed to have been dealing with some internal issues, which ended with us sending him away due to his increased physical aggressiveness.

Next, more hot tub with more guys. Met some people who know of some friends of Rich and me. It was kind of weird, but expected. It was a nice relaxing end of a pretty full day. Tomorrow would be the official start of the party weekend. Oh boy.

Countdown: One Mighty Weekend!

Well, I finished the work week today happy. I am now on vacation! Woo Hoo!!

Rich, Jerry, Philip, Bernard, Tony and I are all headed to Orlando, this next week. One Mighty Weekend and GayDayS at Walt Disney World are almost upon us. We will be joined by, what it seems like, most of the gay community across the United States! Since I first started to push this party as our big event of the summer, we have been meeting more and more people who are attending the festivities along with us. The above mentioned are our core group of friends, but we will have many more people in the adjoining rings.

The San Diego Crew are growing to be more centralized in the whole scheme of things. There are a few people from here in Phoenix that we are friends with whom are going. Hopefully, accompanying each other to these events will fortify our friendships. It never hurts to have more friends.

Also, we have recently been meeting more Circuit Party friends. So far with the Circuit, it seems like you meet one person (Lawrence!), who introduces you to this person, who introduces you to that person. It can go on and on. Then, you find out that all those people know most of the others you met, but not all in the same way. The web of social networking can get confusing, to say the least.

Now to mention all the guys we have been chatting with about what to expect at GayDayS, One Mighty Weekend or even just Walt Disney World and Florida in general. Everyone has been so forthcoming with vital information. It has been great! It certainly helps build all the hype for next week.

I know this is going to be one of the best parties we have been to, yet!

Stay Tuned.

Michael Tolliver Lives by Armistead Maupin

Naughty Adventures and Southern Charm continue to thrive in The City by the Bay

When I first heard that Armistead Maupin was in the middle of writing another book about the inspiring characters from 28 Barbary Lane, I was ecstatic. So, you can imagine my excitement when I heard the primary focus of this latest book was Michael "Mouse" Tolliver! His character touched me from the first time I read Mary Ann thinking she was being flirted with by Michael's boyfriend. Even though his appearance was brief in that chapter, I knew this was someone who would change my view on life and being gay.

Who is Michael Tolliver? Who is Mouse? He is my hero, albeit a fictional one. I have always looked up to him, even strived to be him! Who could resist falling in love with such a caring, warm and down-to-earth character? He may have been written into existence, but he is more than words on paper. He is real. He is any gay man that feels that he is not quite part of something, almost unlovable. I was only a teenager when I started reading the Tales of the City series. I was still trying to figure out who I was and where I fit into the world. Mouse was a great friend to look towards. He was me (if I were living in the 1970's, anyway). I saw him question people telling him he was a great guy and not be surprised when he was dumped by a guy. He, also, would not let that affect how he cared for others. He loved everyone and always had a light-hearted demeanor. I felt a real connection.

As I advanced through my adolescence, I continued reading the books. Both, Mouse and I grew into ourselves. We became more confident in all aspects of our lives. And even though I am still only 25 years old, I know I am a better person and heading in the right direction in life. Partial credit of this standing needs to go to Michael Tolliver and his loving guidance on being a nice gay guy in the big bad world. Thank you, Michael Tolliver! And thank you, Armistead Maupin!

Open Door Policy

So, I know this is my first official post and I really should ease myself into it before getting too deep with the topics. This topic has been coming up a lot lately, so I have been wanting to talk about it. Anyway, here I go...

Open Relationships. Not a very mainstream ideal, but they certainly do exist. They seem to be more common in the gay community than the straight community. Either that or us gay men are just more inclined to be open and public about it. The concept of the open relationship is not new to me by any means, as I have been in one with Rich for many years. I will go on record with saying that they are not for everyone. At times, they can be frustrating and with added leg work, but they do that their advantages.

Like I was saying, the subject has been brought to me an uncanny amount of times, lately. I have been asked about how they work, seen shows on TV talking about them and even in print articles. It seems like it is being brought to the forefront.

A local news show did an expose on what they called 'swinging' here in the Phoenix Metro area. Granted, this particular topic was more focused to the straight community, but it was being talked about, nonetheless. They talked about how it was happening under all of our noses and what you need to know about what your neighbors are doing. It even went as far as having the shadowed-figure interviews. This made me quite perturbed. Why does it matter what people are doing in their own private lives? How does that affect anyone else? This point-of-view is along the lines of constantly being interrogated about my relationship and how my inquisitors could never be in a relationship like that and does not understand how one can live it. Hey, I didn't ask for your opinion. I gladly offer any information about what I think it is all about to help those that are curious about having one for themselves, but I do not need to take the beratement from the rest who can't deal with something that has nothing to do with them.

On another note, I recently read a rather interesting article in Out Magazine. It talked about gay men in committed relationships who then pursue another relationship. They are not cheating, but taking on boyfriend in addition to their husband/partner. All parties involved are aware of everyone else. Now, I had always wondered if this happened, but never heard any evidence. I don't think I could do it myself, at least at this point in my life and relationship. Hell, I have my hands full as it is!

I guess I should probably get to the point of all this. I feel that open relationships are more than just having the opportunity of sexual activities outside of one’s committed relationship, but it is also a mind set. It is being aware of a different way of life that is not confined by religious or social prejudice. I think someone who is either in an open relationship or is accepting of them are somewhat enlightened. They know that humans are still animals and have urges they have to deal with when it comes to sex. We are made to have multiple partners. The pairing of modern time is from what is expected of us to do not what our bodies are telling us it wants. Granted, I am sure there are plenty of people out there that have no issue with wanting to be with no one else other than their mate, but I am sure at one point they had the stray thought or hormonal surge to think of someone else.

I love my partner. He loves me. We both know that we are not going anywhere. But we also know we are humans, even more so males. We are driven by not just our minds and judgment, but our hormones and instincts. Our relationship has evolved into something more than most will ever experience. We can go have our own adventures and know that we have our mate, our best friend there at home, when we return. We encounter new experiences and then share them with each other. It is quite hot, actually.

You can say what you want about my relationship, but I know this is better than being in a monogamous relationship. We don't have to worry when the other is going to cheat, because we cannot cheat on each other.

We know where the other stands, and luckily it is right next to each other!
